I have many hobbies that take a lot of my time. I really enjoy anything from golfing and flying to chess and greek life.
I enjoy a wide variety of food. Click to see my St. Louis restaraunt review. I have been all over the world and, surprisingly, some of the best food I've had is right here in St. Louis. If you have any suggestions for my list, please email me.
I am an active chess player in the Missouri chess scene. I have participated in tournaments in St. Louis, Rolla, and Columbia. I have also participated in tournaments in Chicago (IL), Sioux Falls (SD), Charolotte (NC), and Colombus (OH). I was the editor of the Missouri Chess Bulletin for a couple of years and am always active/interested in Missouri chess politics. Before I went away to college, I ran a club at the Barnes & Noble in Crestwood. This has since become a less than formal club, which meets in the Loop by the St. Louis Bread Co.
I write articles for various sources, including the Missouri Chess Bulletin. Check here for articles I've written
Some good chess links are:
I decided "why buy a small form factor comptuer when you can make your own?". Mine cost a lot less and is way more geeky. Click here to see some pictures and details.
I have quite a fondness for standards compliant programming in C++. In particular, my interests are in secure coding, unit testing, Extreme Programming, algorithmic correctness, network programming, and object oriented design. You can find more of this under my courses section, which contains samples of my code. It can be found here.
My internships between May 2001 and May 2004 were all at CPI in the networking department. I have had the good grace to work with some of the smartest people I know in a company that is on the leading edge of wide area networking and virtual private networking. I am currently training for my CCNA certification. I am also interested in intelligent intrusion detection and response through pattern recognition.
Mathematics has long been an interest of mine. In particular, I enjoy number theory and field theory as it applies to cryptography. I am a member of the team that has cracked the first three parts to the Kryptos sculpture at CIA headquarters and we are currently working on the fourth. I have written some software related to this project. Check back soon for this code. You can find some of the mathematics work I've done under my courses section.
I have been all across America, from California to Florida and most places in between. I have also been to countries in Europe. Over the summer of 2003 I went to France, Germany, and Denmark. My fiancee (Anna) and I spent about a month there and we had a great time! I would have to say that Denmark was the coolest country of the three, but all were great. Click here to see some of the pictures from Europe.
I have just started getting in to the following: Golf, flying, poker, blackjack, and politics. I really don't know a whole lot about any of it yet, but I have a good time messing around. I went to the Rolla golf course for the first time with my fiancee and her two brothers. We all suck still, but it was fun none-the-less. As far as flying goes, I went up in a Stinson in the fall of 2002 and became hooked. A family friend, her father, and I flew from St. Louis to Rolla and back. I picked up a couple of books on the subject, but haven't had a chance to get back in the plane. It is very expensive, and I'm still in college.
